The W. Hawkins Ferry Collection

Jan van der Marck and W. Hawkins Ferry
The name W. Hawkins Ferry has become synonymous with the modern collections of the Detroit Institute of Arts. His remarkable eye for quality and enthusiasm for Surrealism, Abstract Expressionism, and fine contemporary sculpture have brought into the museum examples of the work of the most significant artists of our times, among them Arp, Calder, Gabo, Kline, Miró, Moholy-Nagy, Moore, Motherwell, Newman, and Rauschenberg.
This catalog documents an exhibition held in 1987 that brought together the extraordinary collection of W. Hawkins Ferry, enriched by loans from his private collection. Also included is a history of the Friends of Modern Art written by Ferry himself.
