Joshua Myers, while gaining a growing reputation as a scholar of Black Studies, has found time to make himself into a very strong poet. His poems are both thoughtful and intuitive. They are moving because they are musical, rich in swinging cadences, yet they are fat with the funk and soul of great gospel and blues. While these poems are deeply planted in Black culture, that depth lets anyone find themselves inside them.
