Memoir of a Rust Belt Reporter
December 8 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Reflecting on his life’s work as a reporter, including 32 years with the Detroit Free Press, journalist John Gallagher will offer an insider’s account of the challenges facing Detroit and other Rust Belt cities, as well as the tensions inside local newsrooms throughout the country.
During Gallagher’s time at the Freep there were many notable events, including the troubled Kilpatrick administration, newspaper strikes, the federal bailout of automotive companies, the bankruptcy of Detroit and the exceptional Grand Bargain struck to save the city.
The Grand Bargain was a co-operative effort worked out by non-profits, private companies and the city, just one example of the ingenuity that is leading to the reinvention of heartland cities like Detroit.
Gallagher will have books to sell and sign after his talk.
